Tier 1 is the highest level of competitive youth hockey. The Madison Capitol Youth Hockey Association is one of three Tier 1 ice hockey programs in the state of Wisconsin. Tier 1 teams have open try-outs, which are held annually each in May for the following winter season. Players must re-tryout each season. In addition, because Tier 1 teams do not have any geographic restrictions for their players, players from any area are welcome and invited to tryout.
The goal of Tier 1 hockey is dedicated to providing a high level of competition and developing players to their full potential.
What is AAA hockey?
AAA hockey teams compete at the Tier 1 level and compete against the best youth competition within their age level. AAA teams have a longer season; there are more games, trainings (single team full sheet practices & 2-3 practices per week) & travel (including out of state travel) than what is offered within their local youth hockey associations or high school. We are fortunate to live in an area that has very good club (Tier 2) teams and while it certainly is not for everyone Tier 1 is an opportunity for players who choose to go the route of a higher level of commitment & competition.
Who are your coaches?
We are lucky to have some of the best coaches in the state with several decades of hockey experience among them. Several of our coaches have played college hockey & beyond.
